Biography

I adopted Taffy three years ago from the Champaign County Humane Society. Taffy was quite timid when adopted. He hid in the room where I first released him and did not make any sound for more than three days. Initially, I thought he was dumb. However, after about one week, he began to actively look around and explore the house (1800 square feet single-family house). He also started to approach me and meow at me. Then Taffy became very clingy afterwards with his owner until now. That being said, Taffy has an extremely timid and social phobia personality. He can hide for multiple days when moving to a new home with new people, but once accustomed, he really is a good companion and will become talkative with people he feels safe to stay with.

Taffy is truly a fantastic companion and has a very good personality. I have never seen him bite or scratch anyone. He is also very quiet, unlike some typical cats I had before that are too curious and will knock things off tables to the ground. He also never did any damage to my house, never knocked over my trash bin, and never peed or pooped outside his sandbox. I am also an aquarium hobbyist and have multiple fish tanks at home. He has never harmed the fish, spending most of his time simply watching them swim in the tanks. He is a very rare cat that enjoys staying with people he gets used to. Taffy is also a very clever cat; he knows how to open closet doors. I have a regular cleaning crew come to my house for cleaning every two weeks. Every time he hears someone knocking at the house, he immediately goes to his favorite hiding spot, which is a closet above my refrigerator, opens the door, and then moves in. There have also been multiple occasions when I went out for work and upon returning, I found him coming out from the same cabinet he stayed in while I was away, which shows that he really anticipates my return and loves to be with his owner.

He likes to follow his owner wherever the owner goes and stay with the owner. Often, when I am working at my desk at home at night, he quietly lies on the carpet near me, looking at me or sleeping. If he feels that you have any interest in playing with him, he will turn over his body and let you touch and rub his belly. Even when offended, he will never turn aggressive and bite or scratch people, but rather simply walk away or hide if he feels threatened. Although he is socially phobic, once he gets used to a person, he will show great affection by following the person and rubbing his chins on your hand or leg. I have really enjoyed his companionship over the past three years. Now I need to move to another state on the east coast. It was really a tough decision for me to make to rehome him. I was initially thinking of taking him with me, but given his extreme timidity, I fear that a several-day road trip may cause significant stress on him, or even acute stress. In addition, I will rent an apartment first and then move to a new house. Such multiple moves are also very tough for him. Therefore, I feel rehoming him to a local owner might be best for him.
