Biography

Zorro has been a part of our family for 6 years. We don't know much about his previous history, except that he was found wandering in the woods in Kentucky. We believe he is now about 10 years old.

Zorro is a chihuahua mix (most visibly mixed with Shiba Inu), and weighs about 9 pounds. He is very affectionate, devoted, and lazy, happy to spend most of the day cuddled up on the couch near his favorite human. Zorro has a number of classic chihuahua traits that make his behavior challenging: He guards things (like his food and his bed), he’s fearful of strangers and strange noises (which he expresses with fear aggression), and he gets very attached to 1 person who he then loves a little bit *too* much. For him, this person is my wife, who he tries to “protect” from me, our 4-year old daughter, and our cats. Although Zorro has never bitten anyone, he will sometimes snap at a hand when he gets scared. One good thing is that Zorro exhibits *very* clear body language and other communication signals, so once you know how to read his signals, it’s easy to know when he’s agitated (and how agitated he is).

We are looking to rehome Zorro because my wife is pregnant with our second child. Although we have been able to manage Zorro’s behavior with our first child, we know that it will be too much for us (and him!) to handle with yet another small unpredictable human in the house.

We believe Zorro would be happiest in a home where he is the only pet, and without young children. Ideally, he would be in a home with just 1 human, as he inevitably will pick a favorite if there is more than 1 human, and then make life a bit difficult for everyone else. He loves time with his human more than anything else in the world, and so also ideally his human would be able to spend a lot of time at home. He doesn’t need much: a few walks a day, some snuggles, and food. Zorro is overall very healthy: he takes a liver supplement, and has a mild skin issue on one side of his snout that the vet has us keeping an eye on. We have also been giving Zorro paroxetine for a few years to help with his anxiety.
