Biography
Big, gorgeous prototypical black and tan GSD. Julius has high toy and food drive an loves to play and be trained. He's healthy, loving and extremely loyal to his pack lead. No professional training but quick and eager learner with handler training. We absolutely adore Julius and the last thing we wanted to do was re-home him, but he shows slight nerves towards our two younger kids, our 10yr old with Autism and our 8yr old only girl, and we simply cannot allow it. He's never shown an 'aggressive' side but he did show nerves when we first brought him home, growling/snapping a few times over food/touch until he understood the pack order. Now, he's perfectly obedient and shows no nerves with any of the adults/older kids, but still struggles at times with curling up his lip at our younger kids, who ironically both absolutely love him. For their safety, regardless of how much we love him, I simply cannot allow him to stay when I cannot trust him completely with my young children. Even with professional training we would never feel 100% confident, which is why we've held off and decided to find him a home where he can thrive. He's not been overly socialized but has done very well during the interactions he has had with other dogs, including sharing a home with our Shih Tzu. His one health concern is Fistula, which is a common condition in this breed where he has pain with his stool. He's not been officially diagnosed but the vets initial assessment was that it is likely because of his symptoms of whining occasionally while going #2. We would have gladly pursued surgery to correct if needed had we determined he could assimilate into the family and not be nervy with the little kids, but it's simply not changing. He's absolutely perfect with adults/older kids, but shows the nerves of a irritated sibling on rare occasions that will never allow us to fully include him in our family the way we intended to. Simply put, this dog is gorgeous and loyal and loving like most in the breed, but not suited for young kids.
