Basil is 3 years old and came from North Carolina. It’s unclear how old he was when I got him - potentially 6-10 weeks. He was found in the trash with his brother who was homed elsewhere. Basil is energetic, cuddly and sweet. Unfortunately he has behavior issues which include resource guarding mostly centered around his food. In June he bit one of my roommates and I’ve been unable to work on his behavior with them. Meal times seem to be his biggest trigger sometimes making it difficult for me to feed him because he will bark and bare his teeth at me. I’ve tried working with trainers but because of my own temperament and poor work schedule I don’t feel that I am the right person to train him to be the best dog he can be. We have really good days but the bad days really take their toll. I’d like him to have a home with someone who has experience with reactive dogs and resource guarding. He needs a lot of time and a lot of patience. He’s sometimes reactive to new dogs that he meets but he thrives when he’s given the opportunity to spend a lot of time with the same people and other dogs along with a lot of exercise.
