Biography
Athena is an extremely sweet, loving, and sensitive girl. She absolutely loves people and wants to be near them all the time. She is looking for a home where she can be by her humans, enjoy a big backyard, and get lots of snuggles. She will be your best friend the moment you give her some pets! And she’ll let you know it with her beautiful smile. Extra smiles are given for grilled chicken or scrambled eggs - her favorite!
Unfortunately, circumstances have led us to the difficult decision of finding Athena a new home. The arrival of a puppy has caused some challenges, as Athena struggled to adapt and displayed aggression towards the newcomer. We've diligently worked with a trainer to address her behavior, but it's become clear that Athena's happiness lies in a home where she can be the sole canine companion. Currently, we're maintaining a separation between Athena and the puppy, but it's not a sustainable solution for either of them.
Although Athena has never displayed aggression toward people, we recommend a home without children as she hasn’t had much socialization with them. She has lived with a cat and chickens but would need to be the only dog.
She is a big girl (around 90 lbs) so a large yard where she can get exercise would suit her best. She loves being outside and just watching over the yard, which isn’t surprising since she is a mix of 5 livestock guardian breeds. She is a Tatra Shepherd/Maremmano/Spanish Mastiff/Komondor/Akbash mix. Her protective instincts drive her to bark at changes in the environment, so she would do well in a home that doesn’t mind the occasional bark.
Athena is house-trained and knows how to sit, lay down, give a paw, come and wait. She’s up-to-date on her vaccinations, has been spayed, and microchipped.
