Biography
This pretty mama was a feral stray that had kittens in my elderly friend’s yard in Yuma. I didn’t want them to perish in the heat (one already had), so I asked that she start feeding/watering her until she trusted us enough to capture her and her babies were old enough to be transported. I brought her and her 4 remaining kits to Tucson and have had them for about a month. Kittens are about 9 wks. now and have found homes. Unfortunately, I’m having to find a home for her and really don’t want to take her to a shelter, but I cannot keep her. She is still young, I believe barely a year if even.
I have worked with her a lot to gain her trust and calm her down. She went from ferocious spitting and batting at me to allowing me to pet her within a day of having her here, but she still exudes some caution. She is fine with my small dog, but still not 100% trusting of him and growls and hisses at him and has started some protective fights when the kits are around. Although they sound violent, they literally keep a foot of distance between and there has been no injury to either. He has a bit of anxiety as well, but has tried to be her friend and she just isn’t about it.
I think she would do better in a home with no other pets at first that she has to compete with, until her survivalist skills lessen and she knows she is safe and loved. Her constant demand for food has gotten better, but she still wants to be fed a lot and will get into things when you’re not looking. She doesn’t try to escape at all, which I was afraid she would do as she hasn’t been fixed yet. She is very sweet and still learning how to be a cat, makes biscuits with her funny little paws, is very talkative, and just needs some extra love and attention.
