Biography
Nala is a 4 year old shepherd mix who looks very much like a German Shepherd but smaller. She is very sweet and energetic 40lb girl, often very distracted by the smallest things. She loves to run and is a phenomenal jumper. We have a dog yard with a chain link fence and we are not able to keep her in it because she jumps over and easily clears the fence.
Nala is food/treat motivated so it is often easy to hold her attention, for short periods, with a treat. We haven’t had as much time to work with her as we would like. She responds to her name and can sit on command. We have had her in large open spaces off leash and she always returns. Nala could play fetch for hours and eagerly drops the ball at your feet, ready for another round.
Nala is crate trained and, in addition to sleeping in her crate, she is also accustomed to being crated whenever she will be unsupervised.
She is incredibly sweet and has never acted out, or been anything other than playful and delicate, with other dogs or any of our cats, including one with cerebellar hypoplasia, who is quite delicate.
Nala walks very well on a leash and doesn’t require more than a collar since she doesn’t pull or anything. She can be pretty timid and easily spooked when she walks without Boscoe. They both tend to walk better when they are on walks together. Nala is also super sweet and affectionate; she can be a little high energy about it but she loves to cuddle and be pet. She is very smart and super duper sweet!
Nala was brought into our lives by one of our teenagers, who was very enthusiastic about larger dogs at the time, but later realized her needs exceeded what our teen could realistically provide. With our busy work, school, and kids’ sports schedules, she doesn’t get the time and attention she needs or deserves. Nala needs room to run and a person or family to give her lots of love and affection. We’d love to find a good home for both her and Boscoe, and we would like them to stay together, as they are bonded and have been together for most of their lives. We love Boscoe and Nala and only want to rehome them if we truly believe it will be a better situation for them than we can currently provide.
