Biography
We rescued Kayla and her sister - same household, different litter - in June 2000. A veterinarian estimated her birth date to be around October 2019. She and her sister came from a reservation in MT. They had worms and mange, but we got them healthy.
Kayla is a black lab mixed with one or more other breeds. She has been shy the entire time she's been part of our family. She is super sweet and submissive to humans and would never intentionally hurt one. She will lick whatever part of your body you'll allow for as long as you'll allow... really slowly while looking you in your eyes. She loves sitting on the back of the couch like a cat. She'll go into your walking path, fall, and roll onto her back just to ask for attention.
Kayla has difficulty getting along with her siblings at home. And don't even try dogs she doesn't know; she can enter another dog's space, but other dogs can't enter hers or she'll attack them.
Kayla has grown up with three other dogs, all different breeds and mixed genders. She has attacked them all, as well as other dogs anytime we've attempted to socialize her. Thus, she stays at home, is not leash trained, and is terrified of traffic when I've attempted walks.
I have taken Kayla out into the woods without other dogs around and she stays right by my side without a leash and listens perfectly.
The overall mixture of behaviors I've seen from her in the three years she's been with us tell me that she would be so much happier if she could be in a single pet home, and I would rather rehome her than three other dogs. I am afraid that she will be put down if I take her to a shelter or post an ad elsewhere.
