Biography
Luke is a 5-year-old pit mix (perhaps with some Great Dane) who weighs approximately 75 pounds. Luke is a playful, obedient, and loving boy. He has lived in my house with me, my husband, and our pit bull since April 2023. We all love him.
I adopted Luke for the sole purpose of finding him a successful permanent home, as he is selectively reactive to dogs. He was surrendered to an animal shelter for this reason. While at the shelter, Luke was a favorite amongst both staff and volunteers.
Luke needs a home with someone who has experience with reactive dogs and can provide a secure environment. He has been 100 percent non-reactive to my dog and to my "grand dog" and has been appropriate -- either playful or self-contained -- when introduced in controlled settings to several other dogs. Luke loves to run freely, he is the leader in a game of chase, and he plays tug-of-war without aggression.
Luke also does well on leashed walks, and they wear him out nicely. I'm sure he would tell you that he'd rather run around off leash, though. In our urban setting with many dogs being walked, he has never been reactive to either dogs or people. He does notice rabbits and squirrels, but can be moved along pretty well.
After some exercise, either on or off leash, Luke is an A+ napper. (It's important to know that Luke has good taste in couches, meaning he loves them. Beds, too, although he is polite and compliant when we point him off our bed and onto his own.)
Because Luke has a rare but noted history of aggression with dogs, he is not a candidate at this time for off-leash parks. He has loved going to SniffSpots and he plays well in my small backyard.
An ideal home for Luke would include another dog who has playful energy, a large fenced yard or fenced rural property, and the ability to get outside daily and run around. I have not seen Luke with children, so I can only guess at his response. My best guess is that he would be very good with kids of all ages.
Luke eats well, sleeps soundly, is up-to-date on his vaccinations. He is in excellent health according to our vet. Luke knows basic commands, is motivated by treats, and his recall is very good. My goal is to find Luke a loving home where he can thrive and live as freely as possible. He is a loving boy.
