Biography

Gabe is the sweetest appriximately one year old boy. He is just around 40 pounds, and he is a mixed breed. He makes the most amazing family pet, and it's clear he absolutely adores kids --and our one year old daughter absolutely adores him back. Gabe came to live with us this past January, and since then he has grown and learned so much. He is so fun and active outside: I've taken him on dozens of runs (he can easily handle 3-5 miles running); he loves fetch in the yard; and he did a great job on our first hiking excursion (on a leash still). Inside, he's cool, calm, and collected-- always gentle with our daughter even when he's eating! Many times our toddler has tried to take Gabe's food dish, and he just sits back and waits for her to be done. He truly is so sweet. He loves all people (treats everyone and every new guest in our home like his new best friend) and he loves other dogs, too. We have an older (almost 13 year old) dog, Charlie, who has been struggling since Gabe arrived. Unfortunately, Charlie is the reason we have to find a new home for Gabe. Besides his age, Charlie had a few physical set-backs a few years ago (an ACL tear/ repair and a spinal stroke that left him partially paralyzed and weak in his hind quarters). Since Gabe arrived, Charlie has been trying to keep up with the young pup, and his physical health has taken a toll. We have had Charlie since he was a puppy, and we hope to be able to keep him stronger and healthy for his remaining years. We have to put more physical, mental, and financial energy into Charlie in his remaining time with us, therefore, we have to help Gabe find a new family and home. Gabe truly is a special dog, and we hope to find a family that deserves him. I think he would be most happy in an active family with kids. He thrives when he gets good exercise daily, and he loves spending quality time with his people.
