Biography

Hello all, this is our dog Link, he is approximately 5 years old. He is a rescue dog that we have had for about 4 years now. I hesitate to even send this out because I truly love this dog and can’t bear to lose him, but I’m doing it because I need to stop being selfish and do what is right for him. This dog is wonderful and deserves more than what we can give him. Mainly what he needs is time and patience to help him see through his training and work through his own anxieties. We have patience, but not as much time as we would like because we have a toddler and are expecting another kiddo soon - unfortunately/fortunately, things are likely to get busy for us. Link came from a very traumatic background and has had a very tough past, but once you have his trust he is the most cuddly and lovey dovey type of dog you will ever meet. I have had many dogs over the course of my lifetime, but none of them are as sweet and loving as this guy has been once he feels comfortable.

Ideally the home he goes to would be a single person/couple looking for a best friend to invest in and train with them. It will take consistency and dedication but he is a fast learner, is eager to please, and really enjoys training so hopefully it wouldn’t take too long. He is very guarded at first with anyone new, he has fear aggression and territorial aggression due to his traumatic past, he is on medication for these things. We have been working with a licensed veterinary behaviorist with him for years but we haven’t been as consistent with the training as we should be/he needs.

If you were to take on this pup he would be the most devoted and loving dog that you will ever know. He is full of energy, loves to play and aims to please. I have seen him catch a frisbee in the air twice and he had to do a big leap to do it - I think he would be a great agility dog if he were trained well enough. I don’t want to make light of this, it will not be an easy journey and Link needs a lot of attention and work so please let us know if that is something that you are interested in, but we want to make sure that he goes to a good home that is ready for this kind of challenge. It takes time for him to process and feel comfortable with new humans. Link is great with other dogs and cats, he is okay with kids but I wouldn’t recommend he be in a house with young children that are quite boisterous because it makes him anxious. He is quite smart and is kennel trained, muzzle trained, recalls pretty well, can sit, lay down, jump, stay, settle, and he has graduated from Beginner Doggy School and Doggy High School. He will play in any weather, rain, sleet, hail, blizzard, he is all for it as long as he has his football (or other favorite toys, but we’ve noticed he is attached to his football).

We appreciate and understand that he is a major investment in time and energy, he is a good dog once he knows you. Even though he has all of these challenges, we do feel that he could have a home with someone who has the time for him. We have spent this many years with him because he is a great best friend to us and we want to give him a good home, he just has a troubled past that haunts him and for us it is hard to manage with a toddler. If you are looking for a loyal, furry friend and have the time to work with him - please consider meeting him!
