I found Kila living under the railroad tracks in Conroe, Texas on August 10th, 2016. She was skinny and limping. Turns out her leg was broken, most likely from being thrown out of a moving car. She was quite unruly, but after reading up on dog psychology and consulting professionals, she tamed down and developed trust with people.

She learned to run with me, go hiking and backpacking in remote regions of Colorado and Arkansas, and fetch. Fetch is one of her favorite activities.

She has been my best friend for eight years and I planned on keeping her as long as she lived. In March of 2024, she was diagnosed with bladder stones. She's now better and stone free, but her needs have changed. She will need to have access to a yard as her food and need to drink lots of water causes her to use the bathroom frequently. I am a Special Education teacher and do not have the finances to have someone walk her several times while I'm at work. I've also come upon several financial stressors that make affording her food difficult. She's been refusing to utilize pee pads and will hold it, which may cause future stones. All that to say, sadly, I cannot afford to provide her the environment she needs and it is in her best interest to find a home that can provide for her.
