We found Bergy at the Jurupa Valley Animal Shelter in early March 2024. She caught my eye because she was incredibly underweight and seemed lonely. I didn't take her home the day I saw her but kept a watch on the shelter's website to make sure she got adopted. A week after seeing her, I noticed they had put her on the euthanization list. I called and inquired about this decision and they said it was because she's underweight and behaving shy in the shelter environment. My husband and I picked her up and have chosen to find a home on our own for this beautiful, sweet little girl. She is microchipped and we will be getting her spayed within the next couple of weeks. She is now at a healthy weight of 28 pounds.

Bergy is estimated to be approximately 2 years old and guessed to be a terrier mixed breed, perhaps Boston Terrier. She bonded quickly with our four dogs, as well as our 10-year old twin children. She especially likes playing chase around in the yard with our dog and plays tug of war with ropes and other stuffed dog toys. Bergy does well being in her crate when left alone in the house and sleeps quietly in her crate in a separate room during the night. Bergy enjoys walks and sniffs along the way, Bergy would benefit from leash training to learn not to pull, as well as enforce basic commands such as heel, sit, down, stay, etc... Being a terrier, she is also highly prey driven and loves to chase animals such as lizards and birds. It is unknown how she will react to cats.

Bergy’s goals in life are to be cuddled, loved and play. Every morning when I take her out of her crate for breakfast, Bergy throws both paws on my shoulders and kisses my face. She is a sweet dog and will be a loving devoted companion to a lucky family.

Bergy is an alpha female and needs to be in a home with a dog that will be submissive to her or as an only dog. While she seems to be fine sharing toys and treats, she is protective of her food and should eat in her own area if there is another dog around.

We are fostering Bergy in Temecula California.
