Tuula (Tuu, Tuula—roo, TuuTuu, Tuuby, Tuuly) was born 11/15/2021. She is 65 lbs. Our family (my husband, 2 kids and I) adopted her from a rescue just outside of Chicago when she was 8 weeks old.

She has been through basic training and knows LOTS of tricks & is crate trained. She is trained by voice command and hand signal. She does good with most dogs but not all. She has endless energy and would probably do best with larger dogs. She has never had an issue with another dog in daycare or when boarded. She would not do best in a home with cats, though.

While she does do well with kids, she does have a lot of energy and forgets her size sometimes. Because of this I think Tuula would do best with older kids. We currently have a 5 year old and 9 year old and she is wonderful with them.

She is completely ball obsessed and spends her day with one ball in her mouth while she dribbles another between her paws - it’s quite impressive! She could play fetch for hours! She’s always eager to perform tricks and learn as long as you’ve got treats or a ball to throw!

She also has no food aggression with people - you could steal the food out of her mouth and she wouldn’t bat an eyelash, but is not the best sharer with other dogs.

Tuula is a German shepherd mix but does also have a few other breeds, such as shar pei and American Staffordshire Terrior, as mama was a mutt - dad was a pure bread German Shepherd. We have had Wisdom Panel done.

We are rehoming Tuula due to a few behavior concerns. She has designated herself 24/7 guard dog and we live in a tight neighborhood where our homes are very close together with no yards and lots of kids. She does not have excellent recall when she gets off leash and has a high prey drive so she will chase anything moving. She really wants to give very energetic jumping hello kisses, but it scares the neighborhood kids and she is protective of her home and anyone too close; which is completely unavoidable where we live. She is very smart and good with paddle style door handles and has escaped a few times, chasing folks walking by as she is in “protector mode” but has never bitten anyone. She does not have great leash manners either.

She would do best in a home with someone experienced with dogs as she would benefit immensely and would be an AMAZING dog for someone, unfortunately just not us.

We would require a home visit for anyone wishing to adopt and ask that we be able to see her occasionally or even watch her should you need a dog sitter.
