Biography

We adopted Willie from the Carlsbad animal shelter back in 2021. He had been admitted after being involved in a fatal attack on a mini horse where he and another dog attacked the horse for unknown reasons. He had severe head trauma and was extremely anxious when we got him. Fast forward 3 years and he’s a great companion. He’s still weird, low crawls when he sees other animals and is generally freaked out. Hates anything with metal fences, tried to take him to the dog park and he dragged me back to the car. He’s super loyal and very clingy. He is afraid of small children as well, for whatever reason. He gets along famously with our maltipoo but I can’t say for certain how he’d fit in with other dogs or kids. Totally unknown as he’s in a household of grown adults. We take him out about 3 times a day but he would absolutely benefit from a backyard which is something we can’t provide him with. He also has an ongoing skin condition. He’s had a yeast infection in the past which we had given him medication and medicated shampoos for and it all cleared up. However, he seems to have flare ups that can last days or weeks where he’s itching a lot. If you take him in just be prepared to have some budget set aside for this. We’ve spent about $3k over the past 3 years for various treatments, 1.5k of which was skin-related. We’re looking for a new home for him because he needs someone who can give him a backyard, a ton of attention and the ongoing medical care he may need.
