Biography

Robie is a 5 year old black lab mix who is sweet as can be. He grew up in Truckee, CA where he was an only dog, though had many doggy 'cousins' who visited often. He has been loved dearly since he was first adopted by my in-laws as a puppy. Their situation has changed and he has more energy than they can handle. We've had him with us in the Santa Cruz Mountains since October, 2023. This move introduced him to so many new and exciting things, he is like a kid in a candy store and whenever we meet new people they are surprised to hear his age because he still has lots of puppy energy. He does know how to relax though and is very comfortable in his crate when we need to be away, even for a few hours when necessary. He loves to run!! He needs to run!! He loves to run on the beach or on the trail. He also loves people of all ages and gets along well with most other dogs.

Robie is extremely interested in engaging with all other dogs and all other people. For example, when he is in our front yard he will whine, wimper and bark when anyone comes by, whether person, dog or delivery van. This has included jumping over our 4.5' fence to say hello which is startling for everyone involved. He has not caused harm to any person or dog, but he does cause alarm by this behavior. He will also whine incessantly when he wants to engage with others. We’ve been successful at distracting him with treats. This is a work in progress. These are his behavior issues.

He responds wonderfully to training and needs more of it (and probably a taller fence!) He will stop barking when he hears a whistle or his name and receives a treat. Giving him a treat has also led to good recall when walking off leash. He is very fast so a loud whistle is helpful.

We live in Felton, California in the Santa Cruz Mountains, so he is currently here. However, he is from Truckee and we have family there so if you are interested from the Truckee area, reach out and we'll make a trip up!
