Biography

I brought Guru home from a breeder in IL in August 2020 at age 3 months. He is a curious, playful, charming, vocal, smart, funny, sometimes destructive, lovable boy. He is also a cat with special needs. At a year old he broke out in sores all over his head and was diagnosed with food allergies and put on an Rx food. The vet thinks there may be a seasonal component as well, as he often has a “breakout” in the fall. He will start scratching a lot until he makes his head bleeds and needs to be put on a course of prednisone. He has bad separation anxiety and hates being alone. A home with at least one other outgoing, playful cat (or dog) is necessary. I rarely go on vacation because Guru is very destructive on his own, gets into everything, and breaks things. I went away for a long weekend in 2023 and had friends check him twice a day. He developed chronic diarrhea, possibly from stress or separation, and was later diagnosed with inflamed bowel disease. Please research inflamed bowel disease in cats as it cannot be cured. It is currently managed with a capsule of tilosin (prescribed by vet and I order through Chewy) every other day, and Guru has had regular stool for 5 or 6 months. Guru howls when he’s hungry or wants attention and needs play multiple times a day. Again, a multiple pet household is required. He’s not a lap cat, but will lie on the couch or in bed next to you and follow you all around the house. He greets you at the door when you come home, loves to watch birds and critters through the window (cat trees a must), and LOVES car rides and road trips. He will wake you up in the night wanting food, and even if his Rx kibble is out, he wants you to get up and sit with him while he eats. He is a social eater and likes to make a lot of eye contact while he chews. He does great with other animals (has lived with two dogs and another cat; currently just one dog) and is very friendly. His purr is silent, but you can feel it in his throat. It breaks my heart to rehome him, but this is no longer a good fit for either of us. He deserves a home with other pets he can play with. My allergies have gotten worse and worse and he interrupts my sleep so much it is taking a toll on my health. I also want to be upfront that his Rx food and vet bills can be expensive.
