We are searching for Saúl's next human companion. He has been a beloved member of our family for 8 years since we adopted him around 6mos of age from Austin Animal Center. He's been know for his expressive and goofy ears, incredible intelligence, good looks, love for walks, companioning us on many adventures, diehard obsession with squirrels, treat motivation, and fear of thunderstorms. More recently, Saúl is displaying worsening arousal levels, fear and anxiety, and difficulty with bite inhibition. He has had four incidents of aggression towards humans (all male family members) over the past 1.5 years. Two of the four were considered level 4 bites. We are now expecting our first child, and with assessment and guidance from our dog behaviorist, we have determined he is not a safe fit for our family. Saúl has many redeeming qualities, and we really hope there's a match out there for him. We will share all of his records, including his vet assessments after the first bite, demonstrating that there are not underlying pain issues linked with the worsening displays of aggression.
Per our behaviorist, he would need a single female companion who lives a quiet lifestyle, has no children or other pets, and is patient to give him time and space. She wouldn't expect cuddles from him. She would have resources to potentially get psychiatric medication treatment and/or continued support from our behaviorist or another one. A fenced-in yard, especially a larger property, would be ideal since this pup has some energy.
Saúl must find his next home by the end of February.
