Blue

Blue is a 5.5 year old Maltipoo (September birthday), mostly black with white highlights. Hypoallergenic, no shedding, these dogs enjoy closeness, companionship, and are generally great family dogs. He’s a good boy. He’s only had one owner and I’ve had him since he was a brand new puppy. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to give him the attention and time he needs and deserves and I believe it’s best to find him a home that allows him to live his best life. He is very potty trained. He spends most of the day in a crate-style setup due to my schedule and increasing busyness. I have a townhouse with a patio where he goes to the bathroom to give you an idea of what he’s used to. Someone with a house might be best as opposed to an apartment for the smoothest transition. But an apartment could work if you walk him regularly. When he’s out of his crate he’ll go sit by the door to let me know when he needs to go out. Right now he goes outside once in the morning and then as soon as I get home in the evening. He usually goes out on the patio about 3 times between when I get home and when he is put up in his crate for the night. He knows certain commands very well like sit, stay, no, go lay down (that means go to his crate). His crate doesn’t have a top so I think he’d do well in a crate if that’s what works for you but just isn’t in a full on crate yet. Right now I use a collapsible dog gate with a doggie door to make a square where his bed fits and that’s what I call his crate. I’d love for him to go to a home where he can be walked regularly – it’s rare for him right now 🙁 I also think someone who has the time and desire to socialize him is ideal. He never got fully socialized as a puppy so he barks at strangers that walk by our patio gate and other dogs. But when I walk him he’s still controllable/walks alongside me. The little work I’ve sporadically been able to put into training him to walk properly has had good results. I think he just needs consistency and to slowly be introduced to people outside of the house to help with that sort of stranger barking, and also be slowly introduced to other dogs. So I definitely wouldn’t recommend having any other dogs in the house right away with Blue – just not used to it at all. He’s great to everyone he lives with. He was raised around a 6 year old child as a puppy and that 6 year old is now 11 so he has experience with younger kids, but it has been awhile since hes been around little kids so I think he’d be good with them but I know for certain he’s good with older kids. He gets groomed about once every 2-3 months (bath, nails, anus extraction, haircut). It costs about $70-$80 including tip where I go to give you an idea of expected regular costs outside of food and treats. Grooming is a must because his hair gets super long and if it gets too long his poop can get stuck behind him which is no good for anyone lol. I usually get him a summer cut but if it’s really cold I’ll get him a puppy cut which leaves him some hair. He likes to be close to people, like sit by your feet or at least be in the same room. He’ll also go off and relax on his own when he wants to. He’s really good once you set the rules in knowing what are his toys and what’s not. Like I can leave a sock or clothes or even certain stuffed animals on the floor and he knows those things aren’t his so he’ll leave them alone. Only had a couple instances where he chewed up something that wasn’t his but that was when he was a puppy. He isn’t allowed on the couch or beds so if you want to stick with that structure he’s already used to it and respects it. I know this is long but just want him to go to the right home and want you to be as prepared as possible for him because the last thing I’d want is for him to end up bouncing around from home to home or a shelter. Which I don’t think will happen because he really is a good boy and just needs the right home. Last thing, he needs a rabies vaccine since he hasn’t gotten one in a few years, but he’s never around other animals so it hasn’t been a priority on my to-do list. You can get one for like $20 at these pop-up vaccine shops that are offered all the time. I can get you that info if you’d like. I’m happy to provide more info as needed. Looking to rehome him ASAP
